Pest Control Tips: Dos and Don’ts
Pest control. It’s a year-round process. There is a constant battle we seem to have with various critters vying for a spot INSIDE our homes and businesses. It may be they are driven inside due to the heat, cold, or attracted inside if they discover a food and/or water source. In addition to professional pest control, you may be wondering what else you can do to prevent these pesky pests from getting in and thriving where they don’t belong.
Here are some dos and don’t to consider:
DON’T:
- Leave pet food dishes out for long periods of time
- Let garbage compile
- Leave dirty dishes in sinks at home or in break rooms
- Store firewood and building materials up against the building
- Ignore cracks or little openings around the bottom of the house
- Let your sprinklers spray directly toward the foundation of your home
- Let excess moisture accumulate in your home
- Give pests a free meal
The most important DON’T is…don’t try to remove a pest infestation on your own. It may be dangerous and inefficient to try to deal with it yourself. Hopper knows when to treat, where to treat, what kind of treatment to use, as well as knowing the precise amount of chemical to use in a safe, yet effective way. We have helped hundreds of customers over the years who have spent a small fortune trying to rid of the problems on their own.
DO:
- Replace weather-stripping around windows
- Repair loose mortar around the foundation
- Keep kitchen counters clean
- Store food in sealed containers
- Eliminate areas of standing water
- Keep landscaping trimmed and maintained
- Remove access to hiding places
- Divert rainwater away from the building
- Keep basements, attics and crawl spaces well-ventilated and dry
- Throw away overripe fruits and vegetables
The most important thing to do is… DO call the professionals at Hopper Termite & Pest if you think you have or you know you have a pest problem. Many infestations come with an increased risk of property damage and potential injury. The sooner you call us, the better it will be.
